Podcasts, especially fictional ones, have become the new innovative way to get your fix of queer media, as they are perfect for the person on the go as well as those wanting to drift away
Audio drama has become such an enormous focal point for many queer stories and characters to flourish, with the success of 'Welcome to Night-Vale'. Even after 10 years of 'Welcome to Night-Vale', the world of fiction LGBT audio drama only growing and expanding

Here are 5 fictional podcasts that you should listen to this summer if you are interested in compelling stories told through queer characters.

1 - Alice Isn't Dead

''Alice isn’t Dead' is a surreal horror podcast written by Joseph Fink, recounting the daily life of a long-haul trucker, Keisha, as she travels the USA in the hopes of finding her dead wife Alice. If you love 'Welcome to Night Vale' but wished there was one with lesbian women instead, then you are in luck. Alice isn't dead is written by one of the co-writers of 'Welcome to night vale’ and manages to keep the same eerie motif as well. The plot is extremely captivity as it navigates both a Lovecraftian plotline with humor amalgamated into existentialistic thrills.

2 - The Magnus Archives

The Magnus Archive is another horror podcast written by Jonathan Sims and follows the main character, also named Jonathan Sims, as he traverses a new job as the head archivist in the Magnus Institute. To say this podcast has one of the most gripping storylines is underestimated, with a plot that slowly unravels as you discover more about the world of the Magnus Institute with the main character. Not only will its storyline captivate you, but it will also make you fall in love with its character, many of whom are queer.

"I think our experience of the universe has value even if it disappears forever " – Martin Blackwell from the Magnus Archives

3 -The Bright Session

Imagine if all the X-man characters went to therapy instead of a school for the gifted. That is the basic premise of the plot of 'The Bright Session', a science fiction podcast that revolves around the supernaturally gifted patients of Dr. Bright. Just like the previous podcast, this one will also make you fall in love with its myriad of LGBT characters as you watch them grow and develop.

King fall AM is the love child of every stupid conspiracy theory video that binge on YouTube at 2 am and the internet’s favourite ghost hunting show Buzzfeed unsolved’. With its humorous plot and sitcom-like main cast, the light-hearted podcast also later reveals an LGBT character that’s an integral part of the plot.

5 - Dream Boy Podcast

Just like 'Alice isn’t dead', the dream boy podcast was also written by the creators of ‘Welcome to night vale’ and follows suit with its eeriness. Staying true to its name, the podcast has a very dream-like atmosphere as it follows Dane, a gay spun-out musician who is taking a break from the big city.
“Full of mystery and rich characters… an instant Night Vale classic." - The Guardian
